Sophos Intercheck Client slowing XP Pro

Just took delivery of new Toshiba Portege with Windows XP Pro.
Tested opening a text file with Notepad & it opens in less than 1 second.
Installed SAV with Intercheck client active and ran above test again.
3 second delay before any activity, then a further 3 secs to open the text
file in Notepad.
Ran SAV and stopped Intercheck client.
Performance goes back to normal and text file opens in less than 1 sec.
Has anyone else experienced this problem ?

Hi
I have used Sophos for several years now, and I have found it to be fast on
all my computers. I experience hardly any performance drops from using it.
The only thing I can think of to explain a slight slow down (but not as
significant as yours!) would be if you have set the scan level to full and
are scanning all files and archives.

If you are not already using it, i would advise you to upgrade to the
latest version (3.82). Version 3.83 should be available in a few days, so
you could wait until that is released.
