I bought a Sony DRU800A at Best Buy. It has a $30 rebate. But under terms
and conditions, it said "Online pre-qualification submissions must be
completed and supporting documentation must be postmarked within 30 days
after purchase date." The problem is that there is no on-line site address
mentioned on the rebate form. I checked Sony web site. There is no
information about such a site to pre-submit, neither.

Do you think manufactures trying to find new ways to screw people for the
rebates? And, what should I do next to get the information? I called Best
Buy's 800 number, they told me to ask Sony. But Sony has only toll number,
so before I call, I try to get information on-line.

In the past, I have dealt with some retailers like Staple using web site to
speed up rebate process, but this is the first time that it marks as
requirement to get the rebate.

S'ok. Usually once you get on a site, you want to follow any "support"
or "service' link. This one was buried pretty deep. It took no less
than 10 clicks that opened 4 new windows to find from www.sony.com.
Hopefully pre-qual will speed up the rebate process (at least).

And another point is that a lot of people won't get their rebates because
they didn't pre-submit.

Where is this stated? Isn't mailing in the forms sufficient?

It is under conditions and terms on the rebate form. It is stated that you
have to pre-submit on-line, then after approval, mail the form to the
manufacture. If not following the instructions, you get no rebates.

Thanks, I've never seen that before.

You don't soppose that they do that on purpose, do you? :-)

Isn't Sony the same company that published CDs that installed malware
on some computers?

Just wondering.

Isn't the current price for 16x, dual-layer DVD-R drives about $39.99
without the hassle of a rebate at Newegg.com?

Just wondering also. :)
