Sonic RecordNow doesn't recognize my devices

Deb

Hi..I hope someone here can help me with this. When I go to use my Sonic
RecordNow to burn my cd's, I receive an error msg saying the following: No
compatible or rewritable devices could be found on your system. I have both
a dvd drive and cd drive, and of course I am having difficulties with them as
well: they wont play or load cd's/dvds. Any suggestions on what to try?

Hello,

Sonic RecordNow is used to record to DVDs. Only specialized devices can do
this, most commonly known as DVD-RW drives. You will not be able to record
onto discs with CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives.

With regards to not able to play or load CDs, it is most likely a weak laser
or dirty lens. Get a CD lens cleaner kit or buy a new drive.

The price of a CD/DVD Cleaner kit is about 15% of anew DVD drive so you may
want to instead replace the drive with a new one rather than buying a
cleaner kit.

The RecordNow that I have can also be used to make exact copies of cds, but
now it no longer works. And my cd drive no longer plays music (or even
recognizes that there is a cd in the drive) the same for my dvd player...it
no longer recognizes that there is a dvd in the drive when I go to watch a
movie..???

Contact Sonic. It seems that your version of RecordNow might be
"specifically" tweaked for one make / module of recordable drive.

Deb,

The first thing I might try to do (before just giving up on your hardware)
is to complete remove both CD devices and let Windows try to rediscover and
reinstall those drivers.
Go into the controlpanel->System (use the classic view for Control panel)
Select Device Manager
In that device Manager window, expand the DVD/CD-ROM Drives, and then
right-click on each of them and select Uninstall.
After they are both gone, reboot and let Windows find the new hardware again
(it should be able to find all the needed drivers automatically).

Then give them a try again and see if anything has changed.
