For a couple of months I have been dealing with a Comcast popup box with Constant Guard that shows up in every browser I use in both Windows and Linux.

Scans of malware, virus, and rootkits have come up negative.

If you click on it, it takes you to Comcast's website, so I think they made it.

I called them up and nobody knows anything about it.

I got their corporate address thinking I would send a letter to them about it.

Anyone have any experience with this or other ideas ?

I have known this for a while, but I get my internet free from my apartment manager's office.

But it's an open network and the DNS Suffix is hsd1.tx.comcast.net.

I have a dialup ISP that I may use for a while.

I get steady 53K connect speeds which is better than what I got with AT&T.

I am downloading a program called Spotflux.

It is supposed to offer some protection when you are in Wifi Hotspots like Starbucks.

One time I uninstalled one browser and installed a new one.
Problem went away for a while and then came back.

I have XP on a virtual box. I may see if it can be configured to access the internet.

Comcast injected scripts? Or DNS filtering?

I had Comcast's one year a go



Do not use or install your Comcast CD software

it not needed and nobody knows anything about

Constant Guard that was install with it..



To install your Comcast Modem

plug in the modem box to one Computer

Just open your IE8 browser

put http://www.comcast.com



Make Comcast's website your Home Page

Close

ReStart Computer



Then reopen IE8

Now you have Internet

if not ReStart Modem

Unplug for 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10

then Plug back in

Refresh IE8

Now you have Internet

I do have a modem and can use dialup.

I get free internet as a free service, but it is an open network.

I tried setting it up with WPA2, but you have to pay more.

ipconfig gives this.

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : hsd1.tx.comcast.net.

Since clicking on the popup goes to Comcast's website, I tend to believe that it was made by Comcast.

Calls to Comcast led to answers like:

"I am not aware of that."

"Have you used a malware and virus scanner ?"

"I talked to the guy in the software department and they do not know what it is."

I may send a certified letter to one of their corporate offices.

Sounds like motel wifi. Often they use motel internet hosting
companies and you have to abide by their requirements.
Some of them are pretty strange.
