Hi guys. If you and Peter say so then I say, "Why not"? If the both of you
agree that this might help I certainly will try it out.
Thank you,

<<...He removed McAfee everything....Toshiba is now running....>>

Richard - Just posted below on another thread. I have had no other issues
with this new Gateway Vista computer or with McAfee over last 3 weeks of ops
so will stick with what I have for now. This is just mostly to minimize
adding possibilities for other "stuff" to happen. I'll live with the
regeneration process for a couple more weeks I guess if I keep getting stuck
outbox headers and I probably will.

By the way, I ran the McAfee Techanical Virtual Assistant and it found
several registry entries in need of repair. So I said "repair 'em." Of
course, I'm a worry wart on registry stuff and we'll see if that is more
problems or a help. Ha.

T
-------------

:

Ok, I just finished with the McAfee tech. on their on-line chat service.
After much dialogue, their rep. George M., said his "Sr. Tech" advised the
stuck outbox header causing e-mail to stop sending & pile up in the outbox of
Vista WinMail is a known issue.

McAfee "Sr. Tech" advises they believe it is within McAfee SecurityCenter
not Vista but they don't yet know the root cause either. Told me to check
back on the website or contact them again to check if the fix has been
published.

So...the advice around "communities" to uninstall McAfee could be the right
thing to do for some. For me, now that I've learned regeneration, will stick
with McAfee. Who knows, maybe other issues arise w/other products. I
normally use the CA Suite on my main computer and AVG on my backup XPs along
the home network. I planned to go the free 90 days with McAfee then pay to
switch to CA's product. Mostly just because of brand familiarity, I'm no
expert to determine which one works better.

Gary, pls advise when you can about your own experiment. Thx,

T

Thanks for all the tips and advice. I'm about to start over from scratch
with a full recovery and this time I'll be very vigilant, taking everything
constructive offered here, paying particular attention to every last detail
including the importing of all data and files/ even the address book from the
other computer.

Hopefully we can turn it around and prove to be helpful to others to come
as I was yesterday.

Wish me luck. I'll keep you posted.

We don't work for Microsoft.
We didn't release Vista.

I have already stated that when I first came here I was total unaware of this
.. The very error itself prompted me to come here for community help and
discussion. I totally misinterpreted that message's meaning and have already
stated so.

When Maxwell Bluemeanie brought this to my attention I promptly apologized.
My problem is solved.....completely.

I doubt if you can delete it.
WinMail (Windows Mail) is the replacement for Outlook Express.

The only solution so far is to wipe out the database. So go to
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Advanced | Store Folder to find the message
store location. Then move everything under that Windows Mail directory to
another directory. Then restart WinMail and it will open fresh with nothing
in the database. You can then add your accounts and if they work correctly
then you can use File | Import | Messages and choose WinMail format and
point to the directory to which you moved the files.

I know how I took care of the problem. I took it back for a refund. Norton
IS the hp advisor/ the "other scanner- anti-virus" that WinMail.exe is
engaged with.

I received my Windows Vista computer as a replacement for a Windows XP system
that had some serious problems for 2 1/2 years. The day I got the last part
of my Vista system I hooked it all up and nothing, I called tech support (I
deal with Gateway and so I get American {English Speaking} people all the
time) and had to reboot my system even before I was able to log on once!
After this we found that my system has a brain of its own and stores files,
folders, icons, etc. where ever it wants to. I am awaiting a new boot disk to
fix this problem. I have also encountered the "ghost" email in my deleted
folder and in my outbox, which was just taken care of. I suggest that you
contact the company you purchased the computer from and request a new boot
disk, and do what you need to do to get the computer you paid for. I would
have much prefered another XP system to this.

Understand what Steve Cochran proposed to do to a brand new OS? Seems some
overpaid computer science majors/engineers didn't hear so very well, afterall.

I went computer-hopping again just yesterday and NOW there is a decal on
the machine that states it is protected by Norton (or McAfee) and NO NEED to
purchase an outside Firewall/ antisyware/ antvirus application.

That's the whole problem in a nutshell. In MY case the hp advisor IS
Norton and neither I nor the little salesman at Best Buy had a clue when I
asked if I should use Windows Live One Care on this new top of the line
problematic heap.

It all broke loose when I initiated the hp advisor with WLOC installed, up
and running! Don't you agree that Microsoft should have told ALL of us about
this beforehand? Urban telling me to uninstall Norton/ McAfee, activated or
not, proved to be useless as the further into the Registry I went to
accomplish his proposed fix, the more Norton/ Symanted I found and it sure
took a LOT MORE than the 4 hours he claims to fix other peoples' machines by
doing this. NO WAY MAN!

Well, true to my word, the new machine went back and I received a complete
refund except for the totally un-needed Firewall. I am now running the left
for dead XP and it is running just fine with Windows Live One Care and with
Automatic Live Updates set for high priority to where I pick & choose when &
what to install, otherwise this one will get messed up again because of
Updates I DO NOT NEED due to the fact that this IS ans XP and running Outlook
Express, NOT VISTA and NOT Windows Mail.

I did allow 4 high priority updates jst the other day and sure enough for
the first time since fixing what no other techs could, these Updates screwed
this computer up for an entire weekend. Seem someone decided for me that I
was to use Windows Live and MSN Explorer. I could not access Internet
Explorer OR Outlook Express for over 48 hours however once again, I have
fixed "Ole Faithful" and am running IE and OE, thank you very much!

Really ticked off? You'd better believe it! The email addresses through my
CHOSEN ISP are how I get paid and each address is a different ID and account.
I get paid through all 3 and when this box flatlined on me at the worst
possible time, right on cue, it did not surprise me in the least. I just
dealt with it, regained control of my machine and if they don't stop screwing
around with my livelihood, Windows Live One Care will be OFF of this unit
faster than the Vista went back to Best Buy!

Believe me, I've got the picture, Live and in Technicolor and am in the
process of physically building my own computer that will have absolutely
nothing to do with Microsoft, Vista, Norton, HP Advisor, Windows Live or
anything else other than what I want and install on my lean, mean Screamin'
Demon!

What was that comment about a degree in Computer Science? It's apparent
that I am still here, up & running and In Control! NOBODY is going to tell me
what I can and cannot do or what I HAVE to do or that I have to uninstall
things and begin fixing a BRAND NEW UNIT. This is a bunch of hooey MS & I am
not at all impressed!

Good day fellas. I missed y'all & in the words of the great Governor
Schwarzenager, "I'll be back."

I certainly am NOT rambling on about you. I believe you to be quite an asset
to the boards but what I AM saying, trying NOT to let it all hang out, is
that all this misery associated with so-called, brand new, state of the Art,
Microsoft products is a load and for people to HAVE to resort to the measures
you so kindly provide us with to "fix" brand new equipment is unacceptable to
me as I do not want to have to fix anything new.

I like dependable equipment whether it's a computer, a car, the lawn mower,
the Central Heating & Cooling system etc, etc .... all I want to know is that
it all works without me having to "fix" anything.

Simple, dependable and bug free is what I expect when I buy whatever I so
choose. I do not want to have to "fix" ANY of the above. If it doesn't work,
I don't have any use for "it", right across the proverbial board and that is
that!

Have a nice day.

Steve Cochran

Okay. Just don't shoot the messenger.

Its very clear that MS is hugely concerned about this issue, given the fixes
they have provided and their presence in this NG.

it was never intended to be offered to John Q. Public - The Moron. If you
can't deal with this then you have no business being in this arena; you knew
what computers entail. You don't buy a car, offered to John Q. Public, and
then complain about the high price of gasoline and the heavy traffic - don't
buy a car, stupid! you struike me as being the malevolent personality type
that writes malware.

you may care to apprise ms that its windows defender should extend its
purview to windows mail. i've received many phishes, excellent ms fakes, and
several viruses with it (windows mail automatically opens the mail), although
my defender does a good job with ie7

You can turn off the preview pane, you know.
Opening such a message is not dangerous.
Windows Mail Phishing filter is just guessing about phishing and is wrong
often enough.
