Some websites want a dialup connection

I've got a DSL connection & Win xp Pro. Sometimes I visit certain web sites
and the computer suddenly pops up my dialup connection dialog box, even
though the DSL connection is working fine. What's the reason for this?
Anyone know a way of looking behind the scenes to understand exactly what
source is calling that dialog box? Or, is there a way to keep it from
happening for ANY reason, regardless how valid?

This machine is absolutely, positively virus & spyware-free, incidentally.

The dial up connection pop-up is probably for a hijacker's
site with a 1 900 number that will cost you $5 a minute or
more. Never, never click yes on one of these things. I
open ZA, and use the "stop all Internet activity" before I
even click NO.
