some of wmv and avi file dont run on windows media player 10

i downloaded the latest media player available but still could not run some
*.wmv &*.avi file. some codec are not beng able to download i changed the
preferences of my computer and allowed the necessary components to be
downloaded still this probles persists

Try downloading windows encoder 9 series,in the encoder select,convert
audio/video,locate the file,create a new folder for output,run the encoder.
