Some immediate problems with SP2

T

Terry Pinnell

1. I cannot run Windows Update. I get Error number: 0x800A01AD. Nor
can I fix it via registry as MS web page describes, because cannot set
Permissions to 'full control', even in Safe Mode.

2. NAV (part of SystemWorks 2002) will not run.

3. My Control Panel>Network Connections is now EMPTY.

4. The familiar 'Internet' icon has vanished from my System Tray

Any help would be appreciated please, especially with #1 & 2

I tried SP2 and eventually uninstalled it using Add/Remove
Programs. It simply was not compatible other software on
my PC including the best Firewall/Antivirus product on the
market, Symantec's Norton. You will probably find that if
you uninstall SP2 your PC will return to normal. After
that you can do the research on compatibility and
conflicts before deciding whether to re-install.

Trying to re-install Norton probably won't be a total fix
for your problems, as I re-installed my Norton products at
least a dozen times without getting them to work
seamlessly with SP2-enhanced XP. In addition, SP2 slowed
my browser, and prevented me from viewing a number of
major web sites I had visited before regardless of
lowering Security Settings to a below-safe level. I find
the "security features" of SP2 restrictive and clunky.
Now I hide the SP2 download at WindowsUpdate and Custom
select other critical updates instead. I wish it were not
so, but it's the truth.
