Some DVDs will not play

I have 2 DVD drives and both have stopped playing certain DVDs, mainly retail
ones but also some DVD games. I have no problem with CDs and most Copied
DVDs. I have tried updating the firmware. I have all the codecs I need and
i'm using power DVD. I have tried a full system recovery, still no joy and I
have not made any changes to the hardware. I used to have no problem using
either drive to play DVDs and both have went at the same time so I don't
think it's a hardware issue. I have looked everywhere for help and no one
has any answers. Can somebody out there please help?

(Make a system restore point, then) Locate and click the following registry
key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider
On the Edit menu, click Permissions . Click the registry key for the user
that is currently logged on and ensure that Read and Full Control are both
set to Allow . Click the Advanced button, ensure that the user that is
currently logged on is selected, that Full Control is listed in the
Permissions column, and that This Key and Subkeys is listed in the Apply to
column. Click to select the Replace permission entries on all child objects
with entries shown here that apply to child objects check box. Click Apply ,
and then click Yes when you receive a prompt to continue. Click OK , and
then click OK again

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have tried that to no avail, however there is
another logon called restricted. I don't know if this is because I am
connected to my neighbours router under group control but the problem has
been persisting since before I joined his network but I did notice that that
is the only account that does not have the Full Control box ticked. I also
notice that when I select protected storage system provider, it says ab
default, REG_SZ, (Value not set). Can you help any further please

Rightclick a command prompt icon in the start menu../accessories/. click the
'run as admin' and run the command :

start regedt32

This should give you full control for editing.
A Boot to Safe Mode might let you change the DVD sharing settings in its
Properties.

I have done that and it only lets me logon as owner, which is the only logon
I ever created and it has full administrator priveliges. Shouls I choose the
Restricted account and tick the full control box?

Just a thought but if the master drive was Donald Ducked could that cause the
slave to suffer the same problems and if I give that restricted account full
Admin access to my PC would that allow my neighbour admin access to my PC.
We don't have file sharing set up I just have his encryption key but I cannot
control windows firewall as that is under group management
