Hope some of you guys can offer some help on this one.

Got a laptop that, when a user logs in the following message is displayed
and the system logs off again

"Windows can not log on because you have not activated your copy of windows

Error Code 0XC004F028

Software Licensing Service reported that the policy cache is invalid"

Given that I cant login to activate vista is there any suggestions.

To make matters worse the cd drive has set to second boot device, F12
function has been disabled and Bios has been locked.... and yes you huessed
it they dont know the password for BIOS

Cheers

Hi, Al.

Let's start at the beginning, not in the middle...

Make and model of the computer? Is it new, or did it run for a while then
suddenly quit? Still in warranty? Stuff like that...

Less than a minute on Live Search for 0XC004F028 found this link, which
looks promising although I didn't dig into it:

You could always call Microsoft.

Invariably, when I see a computer that has been protected as this one is,
and the person can not get into it - it turns out that the people who
possess it don't really own it!

RC - you may want to retract the 'looks promising' if you read further
into the erticle - they're flogging a 'registry repair' utility that
vclaims all sorts of wonderful things.:(
( won't name it in case someone gets it into their head to test it
without backups :) )

To the OP
Sorry - I can't really suggest anything to fixx the immediate problem
- except to reset the BIOS by removing the onboard battery for 20
minutes, which should at least allow you to get into the BIOS and boot
from a CD

Hi, Noel.

Thanks for "digging into it" for me - and saving the OP from some trouble
and me from some (more) embarrassment. ;<)

I stopped using "registry cleaners" several years ago.
