smtp server settings are getting changed

Somehow my smtp server settings are being changed in Outlook 2003 every time
I reboot my computer. It is changing from my ISP's smtp server setting (for
example mail.domainname.com) to localhost. Is this a virus or spyware attack
trying to use me as an smtp relay or hopefully something more benign that
someone else has experienced and knows how to fix? Hopefully it is the
latter. Thanks.

It is your anti-virus changing it. Disable the AV plug-in - it is useless
and a major pain.

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

Thanks Milly for your answer but I don't think that is what is causing it.
What AV plug-in are you referring to? Are you referring to the AV that XP SP2
includes? I should have mentioned this is my development machine that is
running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with Trend Micro's Office Scan
Antivirus software and not XP. Any other ideas? Much appreciated.

Your antivurus changes the server to localhost in order for it to intercept
the mail and scan it for viruses before delivery to your in-box. If you
disable mail scanning, change the server name back to the correct one, close
and restart Outlook, you should not see Localhost as your incoming mail
server anymore.

Please note, some firewalls also change the incoming server to localhost.
