I am working on three computers running Windows XP Professional and all three
have the same problem. This file is installed during a windows update session
and once installed the machines lose all Internet connectivity. I open a
command window and type netstat -no and the PID associated with lots of
conections there coresponds with smsrs.exe in task manager. I can kill that
process and all my Internet comes back. While the process is terminated I can
rename the smsrs.exe so it will not get started on reboot and Internet works
fine as long as this executable isn't running.
I have searched the Internet as well as Microsoft for this item and all
searches return 0 results. It is like this thing doesn't exist. Does anyone
know what it is and where it comes from and what it does or anything?
Thank you
