I am posting this as I found a solution to this error. I had searched
for solutions and found several old topics discussing the problem, but
no solution.
Even though the name of the error would lead me to believe it is
related to my sound card, updated drivers, etc. did not help. I found
that it only happens if my HP printer is on and connected to my usb
port when I shut down the computer. Turning off the printer before
shutdown or immediately upon the message popping up allows the computer
to shut down normally. Strange, but it is 100 percent reproducible,
both error and fix, so I guess it is the printer.
