"Smart" File Move Utility?

T

Does anyone know of a utility that will *move* files AND change ANY
entries in the Registry that refer to any files that are moved?

There is always a problem when you move files (usually a folder) of
anything that is installed. Any Registry entries that referred to the
files no longer are valid.

It would be nice to have a utility that moves files, or an entire
folder, and updated the Registry accordantly. It would also be nice
if the utility updated all shortcuts.

So anyone know of such a move utility?

Yes Partition Magic did have this utility. But if I recall correctly, it
wasn't in the later versions of PM. TweakUI can move folders like My
Documents, Favorites, etc. So that will work for some folders.

There was another one by Easeus I think. No here it is it is from EAZ.

There are several such programs. In my experience, none of them work
perfectly, and relying on them is very dangerous. The one I've used
the most is COA2.

Just to let you know, "Partition Magic" is no longer supported by
Symantec AND *DOES NOT* work with today's larger hard drives.

The replacement I've found is "Partition Wizard Professional" from
MiniTool:
http://www.partitionwizard.com/partition-magic-free.html

It's advertised as a "Partition Magic Alternative" and it works.

Do get the Pro version.

EAZ is not a general file-mover utility, and it says nothing about how
it handles Registry entries. Even more of a stopper is, "EAZ Solution
does not provide person-to-person technical support for this software"
comment on their page.

I used to use COA2, but it takes hours and does not do a very good job. I
have had much better results with Application Mover:

The first time I tried it, it was so fast (a couple of minutes) that I also
ran COA2 because I didn't believe it.
