Smart Cut and Paste not so smart!

After much frustration I believe I tracked down the source of
much annoyance and irritation.

It seemed that the only time I could get anything to copy in
word was to hit ctrl-c twice (control-c twice for the sake of
search engines). The weirdest thing that occurred was that when
I hit ctrl-c just once, the current window ended up on the
clipboard. Consequently, when I hit ctrl-v the window image
ended up on my page -- unless I hit ctl-c twice prior to that in
which case, I got my desired object.

I use this version -- Word 2002 (10.5522-4219) SP2.

I do not know if this is Word related but recently strange
behavior began in Explorer when moving files similar to the
above. When moving files with ctrl-x and ctrl-v the files in my
cut buffer vanished after I viewed more than one window between
when I cut the files and when I pasted them!

G'Day Larry,

Question:
In Word AND with FILES, what happens if you
use the Menu - Edit>Copy, Edit>Cut and Edit>Paste?

If these WORK OK, then you (or an Application) have/has
redefined CTRL+C.

Pat,
Thank you for the reply. No, CTRL+C and CTRL+V do not work
okay with the Edit menu, either.

Note: I thought I fixed the entire problem, but the weirdness
with pasting the window image with only one ctrl+c remains. I
also determined that the problem with the ctrl+x seems to be
time sensitive. i.e. If I wait a few seconds too long, the
buffer empties itself.

Thanks all!

The problem persists. I've noticed that if I hit ctl-c twice,
and bring up the clipboard the window image is on the
clipboard, but so is the text I wanted to cut and paste!! I
can select the text and paste it where I want. When I clear
the clipboard of the window images, the text cuts and pastes
just fine. However, once I cut/copy another buffer, the window
images return.
Conclusion: the ctl-c function is obviously screwed up.
Perhaps caused by a background process, but I don't
immediately see a candidate.

I'm ready to blow my disk away and rebuild it. This time maybe
with linux as the primary OS.
