Smart Card Authentication Disrupts Network Connectivity

A client is having trouble using a MS Access 2003 application against a W2K3
server in W2K3 AD with Smart Card Authentication. Users lock the XP with the
Access Application open to a bound form, but not actively processing data.
When they unlock the system, they get an error because the system could not
refresh the bound data on schedule. This problem only occurs when actively
using the Smart Card for authentication. If the system is set to allow
standard username and password authentication, no error will occur on unlock.
Does anyone know if the SmartCard Authentication process creates a brief
disruption in network connectivity or if there are any other issues with
locking and security?

Thanks

We use Cryptographic Logons and many databases (including myself) and don't see this
poblem.

Thank you for the reply. I'm also looking at the possibility that the server
is treating the connection as idle and disconnecting it. They are telling me
that they see a few access denied packets during the unlock procedure. The
database is not using windows authentication since it is access, so that
seems suggestive of some issue with the Windows security affecting the file
share hosting the MDB. Any additional thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks
