small windows 2000 network question

A

Adam J. Olson

I have a laptop connected to a DSL modem which uses a router to connect to
the internet this is windows XP. There is another laptop with a wireless
card which uses that DSL router to connect to the internet this is on
Windows 2000 professional.
My question is can I attatch the Windows 2000 professional computer to a
wired router and attatch that router to a desktop which is running an
evaluation version of windows 2000 Advanced Server? Can the windows 2000
Server computer access the internet through the DSL modem on the XP machine?
Also is it possible to create my Advanced Server machine as a domain
controller and install Active Directory?
Thanks

You can certainly attach the Win2k pro box to a wired connection. It can also have access to the Advanced server. If you share
out the DSL connection on the Xp machine, all clients behind the XP machine can have Internet access. This does require that
the XP client have two network interfaces though. Lastly, the 2003 server cannot just be a domain controller. AD has replaced
the NT4 domain structure so if you want this you must go with AD.

Thank you,
