Small Home Network

Bill

Hello there,

I'd really appreciate any support you might be able to
give me in setting up my home network. I have 2
computers. One is directly connected to the Internet (the
den computer) and the other operates via a wireless
connection (the spare room computer).

Presently, the spare room computer can access the
Internet, so it seems the SMC wireless hardware and
software is working. However, I can't sem to share
resources or data as the computers don't see one another.
That tells me I'm dealing with a network connection issue.

When I use the Network setup wizard on the host (den)
computer, I get a message saying that other computers
cannot connect to the Internet and as a result, I can't
go any further. This is frustrating because the secondary
(spare room) computer *can* connect to the Internet.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Bill

Hi Jerry,

Yes I did. That's when I get the message that the wizard
cannot complete the setup process because other computers
*can't* connect through the host machine.

Hope that provides additional clarification.

Regards,
Bill

Try this...

double click on the "My network places" icon on the
desktop>Click on "Entire Network">Double click on
Microsoft Windows Network (Or on the folder which shows
your 2nd computer's name".
When you get the login box, enter the login name and
passowrd for your 2nd computer. YOu should be able to

I bet one of your systems is running XP Home. I had what
appears to be the same problem. I spend nearly 8 hours on
the phone with Dell with nothing but more frustration. In
the end I saw how many people seemed to have an XP Home
problem when trying to network to XP Pro especially, so I
went out and bought the upgrade to XP Pro, Staples,
$179.00. That solved the problem.

Good luck.
