when i took my laptop out of hybernation (opened lid) the desktop screen is
now much smaller than the monitor ... first time after 4 years that it has
done this... i tried shutting down and removing battery... also tried various
display settings ..nothing brings back my full size desktop... when booting
up, the typical xp boot up screen does take up the whole monitor.. only my
desktop is small.. and all pgms including mouse movement stays within the
desktop confinement...

any ideas what happened ??

I had a similar experience while repairing a Dell Inspiron 8200 for a
friend. The Hdd crashed and to be replaced and when I did, the screen was
centered, except for entering the bios. I finally found in Advanced Settings
under the Display Properties, there is a radio buttons that let you choose
between the lcd display choices (been a few months) Choose the one that says
not centered and everything should return to normal. Only on boot up does
the screen still stay small. I searched everywhere and this is the first
time time I heard of anyone else having the problem. It was a Nvidia
graphics card if I remember.
