Slow typing rate on new computer

C

Chris.Coops

I've recently swapped one of my user's computers in an upgrade from
Windows 2000 to Windows XP. The new computer is a much higher
processor and has more RAM.
However, typing is very sporadic. The user can be typing away and mid
flow the system seems to pause for a second or so and eventually catch
up with the rest of the text the user has typed suddenly appearing.

While not a major issue the user is finding it very annoying, and
typing a dictation is very difficult as she is making errors while the
text catches up.

Any idea what could be causing it, everything else about the system is
identical, apart from the new OS being Windows XP and the system being
higher spec. I've never experience this on a system before.

Thanks
Chris

Is it a wired or wireless keyboard?

Go to control panel and adjust the keyboard properties: Repeat Delay =
Short, Repeat Rate = Fast. That should help.

New Word user

thank you for the info, i was having the same problem with Word being slow to
process my typing, and I am a transcriptionist who types 70 wpm, so this was
very frustrating and slowing me down. Changin the keyboard properties did
seem to help.
