Slow startup

Greetings to all.

I have this issue with the computer of a friend. She is running win xp
home edition (no sp2) with plenty of RAM. I cleaned the machine with
AVG, adaware and the startup section of msconfig as well.

Usually the startup takes about 1 minute, but sometimes it takes about
6 minutes. When you boot, you see the Intel Pentium logo for about 3
minutes, then the Win XP logo is there for about 3 minutes.

We found a workaround to deal with this problem, but there should be a
better way I guess. Our workaround is very simple: we disconnect the
power cord and reconnect it 10 seconds later, after that the startup
sequence is fast again.

Does anyone have a clue about the source of this problem and a solution
to deal with it properly?

Many thanks in advance !

Perhaps Roxio Easy CD Creator is the cause.

"SYMPTOMS
Immediately after you install Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0 Platinum, you
may receive an error message on a blue screen and the computer may stop
responding (hang), or the computer may take a long time to start."

There was no hanging involved, but the computer does take a long time
to start. And the trouble began the day after installing this software,
so I'm 99% sure Roxio is the bad guy.

Then you should uninstall it(i.e Roxio)! Well other thing is that Intel
website has this driver utility viz; Intel Application Accelerator. Download
it for faster boot sequence. Select the correct Chipset(Intel) & OS.

Roxio is long gone, but thanx for the tip about the Intel Application
Accelerator. I'll definitely try it !

Well, the Intel Application Accelerator didn't work, it's only
compatible with Intel chipsets 810 to 860, and she has 865.

But the removal of Roxio killed the bootslowness so we don't need the
Accelerator no more.

Case closed.
