slow startup

Fresh WinXP install boots pretty quickly (at least compared to Win2K).
But access to my internet connection is delayed for a minute or so. I
have DSL dialup through PPPOE and an Ethernet board / external modem.

The delay seems related to initializing the network connections. The
Ethernet is only used for DSL, there is no other network. Systray
eventually shows an icon that says network connection has limited or no
connectivity. An additional icon shows up after I connect.

Any ideas on how to speed this process up?

Thanks.

this could be due to giving your modem enough time to syncronise with the
exchange if your try it before it has you will get no dial tone or similar
errors
