Slow startup in XP

Like many others posting to this group, I am having very slow start ups and tried just about everything mentioned and nothing has hepled including Event Log, bootvis etc etc (If a MVP sees this please help!)

One thing I do see in the Event Log is a two minute "gap" between the tcpip event and the next event, Service Control Manager. Bootvis also shows similar gaps in time where nothing appears to be going on. I can't pin down what is taking so long. Anybody have any ideas?

Wish I could help - I also have similar problems - my XP system takes 5-10
minutes to actually start up - I suspect there may be some adware or similar
spyware - I have installed and removed Norton Internet security 3 times due
to continued Norton error messages. Norton did find some spyware -
uninstalling it has been challenging - I tried some of the fixes
discussed - have still not had much success - any suggestions?
