Slow Responging new Ultimate machine.

I have a new HP a1730n computer.
It has an Athlon 64X2 4600+processor, 4 gigs of memory, A 300 Gig and a 500
Gig Hard drives.
I have the ATI 1300 Radon video card with 512 memory.
I routinely update it with the Windows updates.
I run Trend Micro's PC-Cillin Internet Security 2007 as my firewall/ virus
and spyware checker.
I do nightly scans and routine Defrags.

My "Experience" calculation is 4. The machine came with Vista Home Premium.
I did a clean install of Ultimate

I run applications like Photoshop and MS Publisher and I do have fairly
large files like a 380-425 meg Publisher file and routinely deal with 2-3
meg Photoshop files.

I find that even when they are NOT open, I can "click" on an item and 1-5
seconds will pass before I get a response.

I have run "Registry Mechanic" on the machine to clean up the registry but
it made no difference.

What can I do to tune this guy up and make it quicker??

Thanks

So what is causing your 'Experience Index' to be so low? I would have
expected that system to have had at least a 5.5 (with the cpu being the 5.5
and everything else being 5.8 or 5.9)? Are you running 64-bit or are you
just losing .75G of ram? I have a similar setup with an E.I. of 5.6 and my
digital imaging apps just explode onto the screen when I start them.

Interesting....
Do you have the same Video card? If not which one do you have?

As you know, the Experience rating is based on your slowest score and mine
is both Graphics and gaming Graphics (4.0)

My processor is 5.0, Memory 5.9 and Hard drive is 5.7

I think I've got you there, I use an x1950xtx. I've heard nothing but good
things about the ati 1300, especially with 512M of ram. Are you running the
latest drivers? I just installed catylist 7.3 and had to stop the logging
service because of the BSOD but the driver seems to be really solid. All of
my numbers are 5.9 except my cpu (x6800, go figure) which is my low value of
5.6.

I am sure the EI numbers are really just feel good things but in your case
it appears actually to be relevant. Maybe it's time to do a small upgrade -
I wouldn't go with anything over a x1950-pro since ATI is supposed to be
coming out with the x600/2000 series sometime this month.
