Slow Profile Load/Unload

T

TheScullster

Hi all

Yes I know this has been done to death, but could someone clarify an issue
for me please?

The fixes that I have seen so far appear to apply to machines where all
profiles load/unload slowly.
I have a roaming user profile which is slow on different PCs, so presumably
this discounts hardware issues.
Can anyone advise course of action, other than wiping and re-creating the
profile?

TIA

If you see a lot of Userenv/1517, Userenv/1524 or Userenv/1500 errors in the
Event Viewer, download and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.

This decreased my shutdown time a bunch. Takes any where from 10 to 20
seconds to shutdown.

C:\Program Files\UPHClean\uphclean.exe is added.

The User Profile Hive Cleanup service gets added to Services and
uphclean.exe wiil run all the time. I am one that doesn't like to have any
extra services running, but I am sold on UPHClean.

The following is a waste of time, IMO, but here ya go.

I have checked the event log and found 2 regular warning issues.

1. Userenv 1525

2. Microsoft Fax initialisation/termination 32068
and directly before
Microsoft Fax initialisation/termination 32026

Any ideas please

TIA

Yes, do as Wesley suggested and install the User Profile Hive Cleanup
Service. Here's a TinyURL'd link to the download:

Wesley's post made reference to specific userenv codes which didn't include
1525.
Does this clean up utility work for all userenv issues?

Also, a different user recently complained of slow loading on his laptop.
There is plenty of room on local drives on this laptop.
When the same user logs onto a desktop there's no problems.
Any suggestions?
His laptop OS is Win2000, desktop OS is XP Pro, roaming profiles on WIN2003
server.

TIA

I find it very useful. Naturally, I can't guarantee whether it will work
for you but I would try it. Make a System Restore point first if you
are nervous.

The desktop experience has nothing to do with the laptop experience. You
need to look at the laptop for all the usual stuff - malware, too many
OEM programs/services running, whether DNS is set correctly, etc.

Phil,

Did you read the info about the error?

[[Details
Product: Windows Operating System
Event ID: 1525
Source: Userenv
Version: 5.2
Symbolic Name: EVENT_CSC_ON_PROFILE_SHARE
Message: Windows has detected that Offline Caching is enabled on the Roaming
Profile share - to avoid potential profile corruption, Offline Caching must
be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored.

Explanation
If offline folder access is available for a user's roaming profile share,
synchronization problems might occur because both offline folders and
roaming profiles try to synchronize the files in the user's profile.

User Action
Verify that offline folder access is turned off for shares where roaming
user profiles are stored.
