Hi
i have been looking into a friends PC slow performance issue for them. The
CPU was running at 100% most of the time with explorer.exe using over 80%.
The PC had lost networking but not internet access, no sound, problems with
A/V program being disabled. The event viewer had an entry for explorer having
a faulty module which was advapi32.dll. I replaced this off-line and the
machine returned to normal performance with sound and I could map network
drives. This however did not last and I replaced the dll again. The only
other items listed in the event viewer was a bad block on the HDD, and a
strange entry stating that the DVD burner had firmware that was out of date.
The PC is a near new HP with a Samsung sata drive and a lightscribe dvd
burner, 1 gig ram. scanned for bugs with hi-jack this, vundo fix, adaware
pro, and housecall with no items of concern located.
any ideas? or would you like postings from the event viewer etc?
thanks in advance
