Slow opening folders/apps

I am trying to pin down the cause of slow opening
folders/apps. in XP Home. The folders/apps. that are
having this problem are Control Panel, My Computer, My
Documents, Internet Explorer(pages are slow to load as
well), etc. When one of these folders/apps. is clicked on,
the hourglasss comes on, then dissappears. 1-3 minutes
later, the window opens. Word, Excel, ect. open fine. In
safe mode, the problem folders open fine. Any suggestions
as to the cause of this would be appreciated.
Anti-Virus/AdAware scans are clean and a restore
(non-destructive) has not sloved the problem. Thanks!

Have you checked your system for spyware/adware and viruses?
