Slow Internet

I'm running XP Pro on a Pentium III at 664 MHZ with 128 MB RAM with high
speed Internet (Cable). The machine works fine but the web pages seem awful
slow... several second delays for a page to load. Is this a result of all
the firewall/virusscan/security etc. and Windows updates? Or is this machine
so old that I can't expect better performance and I have to just buy a new
machine? Some other factor?
Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks

That's no speed demon, but if you add RAM so you have 512MB, you will be
amazed at the difference in speed. As far as what you have installed, I
can't comment since you didn't tell us what
"firewall/Virusscan/security" you have. If you are using any McAfee or
Norton products, you should uninstall them and put on a lighter-weight
(but very effective) antivirus such as Avast!. Use the Windows Service
Pack 2 Firewall.
