Slow Internet Connection with WPA

I have a Dell Inspiron 1505 with a Dell 1390 WLAN Mini-Card. The
laptop is running Windows XP Pro (SP2) with all the latest patches.
When I connect to my wireless network with WPA encryption, the
connection is extremly slow. I get less than 1mbps. With WEP (or no
encryption), the connection is normal.

I have two other laptops (a Dell 600m and a Dell 1000) that do not
have this problems - and never did. Both of the older laptops use Dell
wireless adapters. I've tried two different routers (Netgear WGT624
and Linksys WRT54G) upgraded to the latest firmware with the same
results. I've spoken to Dell, Netgear, and Linksys. They all point the
blame to the other company.

Does anyone have any idea as to why this might be happening? Is there
a Windows something that may be causing this?

I'm desperate! Please help!

Thank you!

Have you upgraded your laptop's wireless card to the latest driver from
Dell's website?
Have you tried using another wireless card on your laptop?

Yes, I have the latest drivers from Dell.

Unfortunately, I can't use another wireless card. The 1390 is an
internal mini-card.

RHPT:

I was amazed to see your post, because I am having the exact smae problem.
I just took a brand new 1050 out of the box and the internet over my Linksys
router (WPA) is painfully slow. I too have an older Dell laptop that works
fine.
I downloaded the latest drivers, and I have disabled all of the
virus/internet scanning software, but to no avail.

Hopefully someone else may run accross this thread and have a suggestion,
but right now I am stumped. Let me know if you find a solution.

Hi there,
the SOLUTION to your issue is simple. Use the 1390 Wireless card Utility and
connect to your wireless network.Configure the wireless card to detect w/l
and connect automatically, rather than windows doing that job. to disable
windows disable WZC service. this will fix this issue.
