slow in shutdown

I have win xp professional. I have the problem with shutdown.

If I start the computer and did little work and then shut down, there is no
problem. It shuts down normally.

If i work for sometime and then shutdown, it takes a few minutes for the
shutdown frame to appear. then after clicking shutdown button on that
window, it shutdown more or less normally.

I checked all the windows help, kb in ms site and finally landed here. I
could not find proper answer.

Could you please help me solve this problem,

one Hint: I think, I am not sure, this problem started after I added a
drive and renamed the drive letters. This i did several times. I have a
feeling that this problem started after that? Do y ou think so?
Thanks
Murthy

Changing drive letters can cause problem(s)..1st,if the cdrom/rw (D:),gets
changed to a hd,then it still remains D: in the registry (default).Sfc no
longer
works cause xp still looks for D: cdrom/rw as the installation drive & now
maybe a hd has that letter. It can be fixed, but you did'nt say which letters
went where.
