slow file transfers one way only

I have a 2000 server with xp workstations. We had a probelm where uploading
took about 13 min for 25mb and downloading took 2 min. Swapped out the switch
and uploading now only takes seconds, but the download still takes 2 min. I
tried taking off auto sensing on nic cards, do all machines need this change
or will I notice it working one by one? I do not know what else to test, I
get same results on all machines (10) in the network. Someone mentioned TCP
sliding window. Is this manageable?

Check your anti-virus software. Try turning off the automatic or on-access
scanning on the PC. It can make a huge difference.

We had a Similar problem. We had issues with connections from the Net
Center to the Remote Closets. All connected via Fiber. If I swapped the
Fiber pairs around the upload still Crawled.

Someone mentioned that the 2000/2003 server does some check on the packets
if the server you were transferring to was a DC. It was not in my case.

We replaced the Switches with Gigabit in both the Net Center and Remote
Closets. Had the GBIC fiber between them and then all was good in the world.

The 55 meg file that took 2 minutes to transfer didn't even display a time
after the Switch. The Clients are all 100meg NICs. The one remote closet I
was testing with only had 3-4 users on it at any one time. 20 users Max that
would access the server, though doubtful all at the same time as me.
