Slow file access problem

I have a client on windows XP pro with a strange problem. Any time the
client is connected to the network (W2003), it takes an age to open a
file on the local machine.

Using windows explorer the right click menu takes an age to come up
over a minute, and then to select or open the file takes over a minute
for the menu to open. If I disconnect the network cable all files open
instantly. This happens however I log onto the client, either as the
domain admin or aas th elocal user who is a local admin. The user has a
local account not roaming

This happens when I connect to the network either wirelessly or by
cable and with any account.

Any idea why this would be?

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled -
