Slow contacts list.

Lately, when I forward or send email, the contacts list will take up to ten
seconds to load. Even when I just try to open the contacts file, the same
problem occurs. The file used to just open like any other folder, but for
some reason, it has become excruciatingly sloooowww.

Any suggestions to help speed up my mail would be appreciated.

The page listed only shows one item about the contacts list as follows:

For each 100 contact files in your Contact folder (name and email address
totaling 2KB) there is a 0.25 second delay imposed by Vista for when you
Create, Reply, Forward, or AutoFill a message. (EX: A 2 to 3 second delay
for every 1000 contacts) The timing delay will vary due to processor speed
and size of contact file.

My contact list only has 116 contacts plus three groups with 22 contacts
each. The delay should be no more than 1/2 a second.

Do you have any other suggestions?

When I visit that page, I see additional causes for slowness,
including antivirus scanning, and an excessively large Restricted Sites
list caused by some anti-spyware apps.
The only other suggestion I have is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

Yes I saw those, but those applied to slow Windows Mail. My mail is not
slow. Only the contact list is slow. I checked the other things just in
case and they also weren't the problem.

Okay, this thread stopped a month ago as I searched for other options and
now I'm a breath away from giving in. When I was setting up my new
computer, I made a decision between Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail. For
some reason I cannot remember, I did not want to use Live Mail. Now I must
revisit that choice, but I have questions that you might be able to answer
(if you don't mind).

1) I have multiple email accounts, but I only want to use one inbox. Do I
have a choice on which accounts go where or is it required that each account
have it's own inbox?

2) I love the Spam filter in Windows Mail. Is the one in Live Mail just as
good?

3) If I don't like Live Mail, how difficult will it be to come back to
Windows Mail?

4) Will my mail groups also import to Live Mail or will I need to recreate
them?

By default Windows Live Mailsets up a separate Inbox for each account.
There are two workarounds to get a single Inbox.
a) Set up a new mail folder, call it something like All_Inbox, then set up a
message rule to divert all incoming mail to that folder.
b) Use the Quick View folders, which offer a composite view of all account
folders.

2) I love the Spam filter in Windows Mail. Is the one in Live Mail just as
good?
Yes.

3) If I don't like Live Mail, how difficult will it be to come back to
Windows Mail?

No problem. Just uninstall Windows Live Mail.
4) Will my mail groups also import to Live Mail or will I need to recreate
them?

You mean the Group subdivisions in Contacts? I'm not sure about
that.
