Slow Computer w/ zip drive

Hello!

I have a Dell running windows XP SP2. The computer is extremely slow
(compared to other, almost identical computers in the office). The only
difference is that the slow one has an Iomega CD Burner attached to one of
its USB ports. There is some software running in the background to support
this drive. We only use to backup documents relating to a certain program.

Are these programs necessary, or can we use the windows CD burner program to
backup the files?

If they are necessary, can I keep these two programs (AppServices.exe and
Autolaunch.exe) from starting automatically on startup?

If so, I just need to write a batch program to start the missing services up
when we use the program, right?

How can I shut these down when our program shuts down?

Thanks for your help!

1) How do you KNOW it's these guys that are slowing down this system? As a
test, to be sure, try 1) shutdown, unplug the drive, boot. OR 2) just
uninstall all the iomega stuff (via add/remove programs) and unplug the
drive. If it does return to "full speed", then you're right. Sounds
fishy to me tho...

2) AppServices is a "generic" library of routines that all IOMega drivers
need, you can't disable that service and have things work. I suppose you
could set it to "manual" startup type, then start it manually only when
you needed to access the drive. It may or may not work, but worth a try.

3) AutoLaunch I do not know anything about. My setup does not have that,
perhaps it's related to...

4) IOMegaWare installs something called "Active Disk" by default; it is
not required by the drivers, only for their other "utility" software. I
always uninstall that (via add/remove programs), you might want to get rid
of it too.

Good Luck.
