I have a dozen Win98se and 2000pro workstations running Office 2000
They access MSWorddocuments in a directory which is located across a 100mb network
There are 10,000 Msword documents in the main directory with several smaller subdirectories
When this document directory is stored on a Win98se server and workstations have their MSWORD file location aimed to that server, the resulting access to that directory thru MSWORD is very fast
It only takes 2-3 seconds for the file directory to appear in MSWORD’s Open file window
However, when the same document directory is stored on a 2000 Server or even a 2000pro workstation I get slow performance. Workstations have their MSWORD file location aimed to that server, but the file directory takes much longer to view, approx. 13 seconds.
This sluggish behavior is unacceptable in a busy work environment.
Additionally, when the 2000 Server is used, after a period of inactivity, the workstations may be denied further access to the Server and the workstations must be rebooted to reconnect to the 2000 Server
Any idea what causes this problem and what can be done to allow me to efficiently access a large MSWord directory on a 2000 Server.
Thanks
