Slow after SP2

S

Susan

After SP 2 my computer has slowed down to a crawl. It
takes forever for windows to load. I have cleaned out
all cache, defragmented ... done everything possible but
still crawling. Any suggestions/solutions out there?

I had the same problem on a NEW (35 days) Dell Laptop. I
am not an IT guy. I only type what "I" did that worked.
It may or may not be the right thing for you.

I system restored to a previous save point. I followed my
computer's user manual for Using a System Restore. This
is under the START>HELP_AND_SUPPORT>SYSTEM_RESTORE menu.
I then picked a date one day before I installed SP2. It
took several minutes to restore, mainly because my system
was running soo slow!

The good news was after the normal reboot and start-up, a
miracle happened and my laptop is screaming fast once
again.

It worked for me!

Sincerely,
~Greg

Please look in Event Viewer at the reports and post copies of those
following the delay. Make an exact note of the precise text of any error
message. Minor discrepancies can make it harder to search for information
about the error message.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, Event
Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID,
Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click
for further information and you can copy using copy and paste.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button resembling
two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make sure
this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

What anti-virus and firewall programmes are you using? Have there been any
problems with these programmes?

Hope this helps.

From a different perspective it did not work for you as you no longer are
running SP2!
