slow 2 open folders with many files

Hi all,

i´ve a winxp+98 network, and one folder with about 3000 word files.
i can open that folder (and see the files) very fast from the 98 clients,
but is VERY (up to 30 sec) slow from XP clients.

do you have any idea to speed it up ?

Place some of your documents in folders. This is coming way back from
the good old DOS days where there is a performance degradation when
there are too many files within the directory for the file system to
iterate. It is even worse if you have those files in the root directory.

From my limited knowledge, placing your files in directories would
greatly improve your access speed.
