After boot up there is a 1-2 minute time period that I have to wait before clicking on any icon. After I wait the PC will work fine. The system shows 99% idle process. Slowly the LAN connections will appear and HD, CD, Scanner and so on. Why is it taking so long? Help Please

You probably have a service set to manual startup when it needs to be
automatic. You can verify it is related to service startup by looking at
Administrative Tools-> Services during startup and sort on the Status
column. Compare the "before" and "after" lists. Go to
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm for a list of services and
their default setting -- pay attention to the Automatic items. Many can be
disabled or set to manual, but I would first make sure the defaults work
before tweaking.
