Slipstreamed SP2 giving insuficient space

P

Paul Ferreira

Hi There,

I am resposible for creating Custom Images for several
Departments within my organization.

I have just slipstream SP2 into our Windows XP SP1, and
using a DOS boot disk, we boot up and issue a unattend
install for the OS, we have additional applications on
the CD that get copied over to be installed at the end of
the Operating System installation.

I am aware that Using a Dos boot Disk limit the size of
the partition created on the hard drive to 2 GB. This has
not been an issue in the past. It copies the CD contents
over, reboots and installs from the hard drive, extends
the partion and formats it as NTFS, then cleans up
additional residue that may have been there.

With SP2 slipstream seems that the working environment
requires 1371 MB. The CD is currently sitting at 502 MB,
which is what is coppied over (this will grow to a full
CD).

I would like to know is the 1371 MB really required?
there is no switch to ignore it for winnt.exe. Or one
that is not really advertised.

I am aware that I might have to use a Windows 9x boot
disk that supports FAT 32, but didn't want to pursue this
option.

Any response would be appritiated.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

hi,
Even I am trying to achieve the same thing. Fortunately I managed to create
a bootable dvd which can be use for unattended install of winxp SP2 without
any problems. I even managed to copy the application folders which I want to
install after the OS installation.
I would suggest you to create bootable cd/dvd for windows xp rather than
using DOS boot disk. It will help you in overriding the problem you are
facing while creating the partition. I am still stucked at the application
installation so I wont write anything on that part.
If you need any help on creating bootable SP2 slipstreamed windows xp pro cd
then please have look at
