Slightly off topic: Activity log and firewall

H. Martins

Hi.

I apologize for this post slightly out of topic.

I have managed to setup a remote desktop server running XPUnlimited.
Apart from some troubles with workstation printers, it works OK.

Still I have two worries:

1 - The database tends to be used by more and more users. Is there a
way to log who is modifying what? Is there some sort of 'general code'
enabling to store, somewhere, who changes what and where?

2 - Could you please suggest some method to monitor the IPs of the
client computers, eventually some better-them-XP firewall software
that allows limiting the IP ranges that can access the desktop server?

Thanks
H. Martins

You'll have to build your own logging system, but there are ways to record
who is using the database.

If you've secured your database, no one can use the back-end without a
password and in earlier versions, without an account. Make sure that your
database is split and each bona-fide user has a copy of the front-end on
their workstation. Unsplit databases cannot be run from a server without
eventual disastrous results.
