sleep mode

Is there a way to prevent your computer from entering sleep mode? My last
computer didn't have a sleep mode, but the one I bought a few months ago
does. My computer is by E-Machines, and is Windows XP Home Edition. I have
a cordless keyboard and mouse by Micro Innovations. Whenever the computer
enters sleep mode, my mouse "locks up" and won't bring the computer out of
sleep mode. Hitting "enter" on the keyboard does not work either. I have no
alternative but to cut the power to the computer and then turn it on again
later. This is annoying since I use my computer throughout the day, but it
might be a couple of hours between uses, so it enters sleep mode, locks up,
etc. I would rather my computer just sit here with the screensaver running
and be able to come in and use it whenever. Any help/advice would be greatly
appreciated.

Are you talking about hibernate? If so, right click on the Desktop, select Properties. Click on the Screen Saver tab, then the Power button. Click on the Hibernate tab, then uncheck Enable Hibernation.

Certainly it's user configurable. From Start | Help and Support search on
standby or power options for detailed information.

Thank you all for your help! I followed your directions and it worked. I
knew it could be done, and I'm a big believer usually in learning by trial
and error. :) But I figured it would be faster and safer to ask for advice.

Thanks again for the help. I've bookmarked this forum for future questions.

You're welcome. Actually this is a Usenet newsgroup, not a forum. You
happened to access it using the web interface, unfortunately the web
interface is basically lousy. I would recommend you use a newsreader to
access this. newsgroups. The experience is much better. XP comes with
Outlook Express which can be configured for newsgroup access. Here is a
link with info on how to setup Outlook Express for newsgroup access. It's a
good learning experience to spend time in this newsgroup, reading the posts,
you can learn much about XP and the use of computers. Here is a link to
this newsgroup which will open up in Outlook Express.
