Suggestions regarding...what exactly?

I would highly suggest you stop being so stupid, how's that for a suggestion? ^_^

Why use a 32 bit processor when you can get a great 64 bit processor
at the same price or less? Buy an Athlon 64 processor instead.

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2065&p=1

Um, except that despite the 64 bit architecture the Intel's are still better at graphics, rendering
and shit like that. A lot of which has to do with the fact that almost NO graphic software maker is
designing their products to really make use of 64 bit architecture and by the time they do, Intel
will have already come out with a commercial grade 64 bit processor (ie not Itanium). Really at
this point the only reasoning behind getting an AMD processor is if you're looking to setup a web
server, anything else, go with an Intel chip.

Except that Athlon is usually faster if you don't use the more
modern versions of a given application... 4 year old software,
for example, may be faster on the Athlon. A P4 costs hundreds of
dollars more for the same performance levels when considering
software replacement.

Have you just been sleeping for the past week, or what? How did you miss the post where I put up
all this stuff:

http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=noconaopteron&page=10
(that one REALLY shows how lacking the Opterons are in graphics rendering)

http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=noconaopteron&page=13
Now ya see there's where the Opterons REALLY shine, with web server applications.

Oh and BTW, here's the real kicker:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-455&depa=0
$875

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-117-028&depa=0
$745

OUCH!!! Nearly $130 cheaper than the Opteron, not exactly very good on the savings when you consider
how very little the advantage is with the Opterons...well uless maybe you're setting up a web
server...although in that event I'm thinkin most sysadmins would just go for the gold and get
Itanium processors.

What part of "if you don't use the more modern versions of a
given application" don't you understand?

You linked to benchmarks of specific newer apps... if hundreds of
$$$ aren't spent on those apps, the performance lead vanishes.

How's that a kicker?
Anyone who needs ultimate performance would be a fool to spend
top dollar on either instead of load-sharing multiple boxes.

So provide some proof please. Certainly you don't think I'm just going to take your word for it.
This is the first time I've heard anything of the sort so forgive me if I think you're full of shit.
And really, spending money on software, what are you, stupid?

Okay now that REALLY made you look like you don't know what you're talking about. Would you like me
to explain or would you like to just ignore it and pretend you never wrote such inane stupidity?

I thought maybe your memory was at least long-term enough to
remember back when these optimized apps first appeared, but maybe
not. At any rate, if you like to spend more then not even
benchmark older apps, I"m fine with that so long as you are...

Do you always need to have someone tell you what's what with a
benchmark website? Most of us have plenty of older software and
can test it for ourselves.

I would like a 5K word essay, and some bean soup would be nice
too.

Have you compared 64 bit software running on an Athlon 64 to 32 bit software running on a Pentium 4?
Take a look at 64 bit software running on an
Opteron and on a 64 bit Xeon.

http://www.anandtech.com/linux/showdoc.aspx?i=2163&p=1

Intel has 64 bit Pentium 4s and xeons. The 64 bit Xeon appears to perform
quite poorly compared to Opteron running 64 bit software.

http://www.anandtech.com/linux/showdoc.aspx?i=2163&p=1

The 64 bit Intel chips don't have integrated memory controllers.
Really at

Not quite. Only those who plan to run certain 32 bit multimedia software
might benefit from a P4. Others who run other types of software or plan to
do multimedia using 64 bit software will benefit from an Athlon 64
or Opteron.

Here the Opteron 150 beats the Xeon Nocona 3.6 ghz by a great margin running 64 bit software. What are the
prices on those chips?

It'll be quite some time till the professional 3D, rendering and CAD
programs that I use would be optimised for SSE3 extensions. By then SSE3
would probably be included in AMD chips anyway.

Yes, on your left you'll see that in every "benchmark" on that site, the AMD somehow magically
exceeds the Intel chip in EVERY test...and on your right...top...bottom, hell all OVER the ****ing
page you'll find, hrmmm....AMD advertisements! Coincidence? Payoff? *snicker*
