simultaneous slide shows

I want to bring up extraneous slides during a presentation I am assisting
with as joke on the presenter. i want the transition to be seamless and
rapid. For example, if he says something not funny, I want to flash a LAUGH
sign up very quickly. To right click and bring up the index of slides will
be too obvious and slow. I am thinking that something like simultaneous
slide shows with a quick <ALT TAB> type function would be good. I can bring
up the extra slide like that, but it isn't in Slide Show format. Does such a
capability exist?

I think your best bet is to have a few hidden slides for which you memorize
the slide numbers. The slides will have a 99% transparent shape over the
entire slide with an Action Setting to hyperlink to Last Slide Viewed (for
easy return). All you have to do is type in the slide numbers and hit Enter
to go to those slides. Click anywhere to return.

I apppreciate the help. Ran into one issue. When I try to insert a
hyperlink, I do not get an option for "Last slide viewed", just Previous
Slide. I am on PPT 2003, SP2. Any other thoughts??

Rather than a Hyperlink, use the Action Settings. You will see that
option under the hyperlink area of Actions Settings (right-click on your
object and choose Action Settings). This is one of the weird things about
PowerPoint that I always find annoying. Two different ways to do almost
exactly the same thing with two totally different interfaces and slightly
different features. I'm sure there are historical reasons for why this is
so, but it bugs me from a user interface standpoint.

As well as a large shape you could use an action button - last slide viewed
(which could be invisible or even off slide) To get back press alt then enter
which should "operate" the button. Keeps everything keyboard!

Thanks! That cleared it up. One weird feature I ran into - when I set up the
action setting to last slide viewed, it changed the font color on my hidden
slide (from black to yellow). I am using some yellow background on some of
my slides (from a template). I just changed the color of my background.

The info does help. I now have my slides working like I want them.

It's interesting - to me, at least - that after about 15 years or so of
using the Internet, I still get excited about the opportunity for not only
people around the country, but people around the world to jump in and help
with small issues such as this.
