silly question ref processor support

hi, apologies for this question, as its probably been asked a thousand times
before.......

ok, im a student at portland college, UK studying on a cisco CNNA course.
now yesterday we had a brief lecture into windows server 2003, in which was
highlighted that it had support for 8x processors, now, i asked the question
was that 8x single cores, or 8x dual cores or even 8x quad cores, or would it
have to break down to 4x dual core or 2x quad cores. have dug about looking
for a satisfactory answer to this but so far have pulled a big fat blank so
im sat here, still in the dark, still baffled!

any help in answering this would be greatly appreciated

I believe the specs refer to physical processors:

However:

I believe the above information is correct, but you'd be better off asking
in a Windows Server related group.
