Signature Options Greyed Out

Hi,

In Options/Mail Format my signature options are greyed out. Anyone able
to tell me why this might be and how to fix it?

Thanks

Tom

Version of Outlook? IIRC for Outlook 2000 and previous HTML has to be
selected as the prefered message format for the options to become active.

Hi, I'm running version 2003. Also, I use Spam Inspector. The details
greyed out are "SpamFilerSigOL". However, even after telling Spam
Inspector to remove its signature, and even uninstalling Spam Inspector,
the situation stays the same.
Thanks

Uncheck the option to use Word as you mail editor.

Hi Milly,

Yep, tried that. Makes no difference. When I use the default Outlook
editor I can insert different signatures from the insert menu. I still
can't access any signature menu to change the signature. Mystery!

Millie:

This worked, Thanks. I guess you can not use word as your editor and the
signature option, at the same time, correct

One scenaro in which the signature options might be grayed out is if the network administrator has applied a policy setting that blocks them. You can look in the Windows registry, under HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office to see if that's the case.

Thanks for that Sue.

I'm using a stand alone machine. I tried finding the option to which
you refer and there is no subdirectory (or category) below "Microsoft"
called "Office".

As a matter of interest here is the signature that I cannot change:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM!
Download Spam Inspector, the Award Winning Anti-Spam Filter
http://mail.giantcompany.com

Clearly the change has been made by "Spam Inspector". I emailed "Giant
Company" and they told me that the software is no longer supported (the
rest of the software ... the anti-spam softare ... was bought out by
Microsoft). It seems this software has created the problem. I done
everything to get rid of it through the Spam Inspector. I reinstalled
Spam Inspector and tried to turn off the signature in its options. Spam
Inspector is no longer installed.

Thanks for your suggestion.

We have to conclude that no policy settings have been applied that would affect your signature. Next, look in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common\MailSettings to see if there are any signature-related settings there.

Hi Sue,

I have looked at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Common

I found no category called "MailSettings" only "Assistant" and "Smart
Tag".

Thank you for continuing with my problem.

Hi, I did a search on "Signature" and got this:

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1275210071-1770027372-682003330-500\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Common\MailSettings

In MailSettings it has

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
AdvertisePicture REG_DWORD 0x0000006 (6)
ComposeFontSimple REG_BINARY _Here includes lengthy set of Hex numbers_
MarkCommentsWith REG_BINARY _Here includes lengthy set of Hex numbers_
NewSignature REG_SZ SpamFilterSigOL
ReplySignatue REG_SZ SpamFilterSigOL
Templage REG_EXPAND_SZ

At this point, it's a mystery. At least tell us your Outlook build number from the Help | About Microsoft Outlook dialog so we can file it with other similar mysteries. If the cause or a solution turns up, we'll post it here.

Hi Sue, Here is the build number:
(11.8002.6568)
Also, I actually found the signature files (SpamFilterSigOL) and edited
them manually (an .html .rtf and .txt) to the signature I want.
This is not really a satisfactory fix but does the job for the time
being.

Thanks

Tom
