anyone know how i can put in a password, so that my son can not get onto the
computer/internet? we have 3 profiles mine, and my two sons. one is very
computer smart. i am looking for a way that they will not be able to be on
the computer while i am gone to work all day. any help is appreciated. chris

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to advise but until then
have you considered just taking the network cable away with you when you go
out? Just the lead going from your computer to the phone-line or ADSL/cable
modem. That'll stop him for a while...

There is a way you can password protect access to the computer so it will
not boot. Usually you can hold down the delete key or F2 while the computer
is being booted to access the computer [not operating system] settings.
However if your sons can get access to the inside of the computer they can
move a jumper to reset that password which you would know when your password
no longer worked. Beyond that you may want to look into locking the computer
up which can be done if you search the internet for computer safes. You also
could look into having a removable drive tray installed in your computer
case and you could lock up your computer drive or take it to work with you.
Of course that would not stop them from installing another hard drive in the
computer when you are gone if they have the means to obtain one. --- Steve
