Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro

James

Please anyone,

Is it worth me buying a separate soundcard with gameport
so that I can use my old sidewinder force feedback
joystick. I've upgraded from Windows 98 to a new computer
running XP and have heard that the joystick may not work.

If your new PC has no gameport controller, that is your only option...
unless you want to treat yourself to a nice new ForceFeedback2 joystick
instead which is a USB connection.

Didn't Microsoft stop supporting the Sidewinder series
joysticks? I was under the impression that there is no
XP support for the joysticks as I could not find an
updated driver set for XP when i installed it...or did
they change thier minds?

There is no updated software for the gameport controller joysticks and the
v3.02 Sidewinder software cannot be used on NT based operating systems (such
as NT, 2000 and XP).

The USB Sidewinder devices have always used v4.0 of the software which will
work very happily on 2000 and XP. It will not work on NT because NT does
not support USB devices!

Not sure but there is a software update if you are using a mainboard
with VIA chipset. I had to re-install one recently. It was a USB
version. Once I downloaded and installed VIA compatable s/w it worked
well.
