I have recently encountered problems in shutting down Windows XP Pro. When I
do so through the normal 'turn off' procedure the o/s appears to
progressively shut down but finally goes to a screen with a rather involved
message commencing 'A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer etc.'.
I have then simply turned the computer off by pressing the power button and
am able to restart without difficulty. The message suggests that possible
causes of the problem are that I am maybe short of hard disk space or that
my bios needs updated. I have over 20 Gb of space unused on the hard drive
and the XP o/s does appear to allow one to display the bios in the same way
that earlier versions of Windows did.
Can anyone suggest how I may correct the problem. My computer is a generic
model.
