Shut down/start up

XP Professional version. Whenever I shut down correctly and try to restart by
power button, I get a blank screen. Lights are on as usual - however the
light indicating scroll lock is blinking. This is the 3rd light in a row of 3
lights above the F11 ket and to the right of the power button on my laptop
keyboard. The only way I can get my screen to come on is to shut down by
holding in the power button and restarting!! This just started happening.

"Above the F11 key"??? Readers of these posts do not have a picture of your
keyboard. Given the brand of your laptop may help. The particular light you
are talking about is above my F8 key, thus.........??? Next time the scroll
lock/
num lock key light blinks, press the key one time and see what happens and
reboot.

My laptop is a Dell. Sorry. You state scroll lock/num lock key.... I have one
light for each, these are lights, NOT keys. So, I do not understand what KEY
I should press one time???????
