Shut Down Failure

When I try to turn off my computer the shutdown dialog box
will close, but then the computer fails to turn-off, or do
anything. I hav still have usability after the command,
but the computer acts strange (slow, closes menus
automatically). The computer will turn-off if i hit
the "button" once and then open the start menu again
really quickly and hit again.
There does not appear to be any info in the knowledge base
about this particular shutdown problem, and i am out of
warranty.

any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
